Curtain Raiser Event for 10th International Yoga Day at Matara Beach Park

The Consulate General of India in Hambantota successfully organized the official curtain raiser event as a prelude to mark the upcoming 10th International Day of Yoga on 31st May, 2024 at Matara Beach Park. The event was graced by Hon. Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Matara District Member of Parliament as the chief guest. The occasion also saw the presence of several other dignitaries, including Mr. Ganesha Amarasinghe, District Secretary of Matara, and Mr. G.S.P. Jayasundara, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Matara.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Shri Harvinder Singh, Consul General of India, Hambantota who emphasized the global significance of Yoga as a holistic practice for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The gathering also attracted more than 100 Yoga enthusiasts including Army officers from the 3rd Regiment, Matara, Police officers from Matara, officials from Matara District Secretariat and Divisional Secretariat, Members of the Matara District Chamber of Commerce, as well as students and teachers from Mahinda Rajapaksha College, Rahula College, and Mahamaya Girls' College.

The Yoga programme was conducted by Mr. Somie Palliyaguru, founder of the Om Yoga Institute in Matara alongside Mrs. Liliana Bagiriyan, a Protocol Yoga instructor from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
