Photo Exhibition Organized by Consulate General of India, Hambantota at Sri Pushparama Maha Viharaya in Meetiyagoda, Galle
An exhibition was organized by Consulate General of India, Hambantota on the occasion of “Nikini Poya Day” on 08th August, 2025, titled “India Through Sri Lankan Eyes” at the historic Sri Pushparama Maha Viharaya in Meetiyagoda, Galle. The temple is among the beneficiaries of Government of India’s USD 17 million solar electrification project.
2. The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Nishantha Perera, Member of Parliament from Galle District and Consul General Mr. Harvinder Singh in the gracious presence of Chief Priest Rev. Meetiyagoda Saddhananda Thero. The exhibition took place at the temple premises from 08-10 August, 2025.
3. This distinctive exhibition presents India’s rich Buddhist heritage through a compelling collection of photographs. These images vividly capture key events from the life of Lord Buddha, along with the splendor of prominent Buddhist pilgrimage sites located across Indian states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Ladakh, Andhra Pradesh, and Kashmir. The exhibition also includes breathtaking photographs highlighting the diverse beauty of other regions in India.
4. The Consulate General of India in Hambantota has been organizing such exhibitions on every Poya Day at various Buddhist temples throughout the Southern Province and Monaragala District of Uva Province. These events have been met with enthusiastic participation and heartfelt appreciation from the local communities.
5. This ongoing initiative continues to highlight the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual ties between India and Sri Lanka. By celebrating a shared Buddhist legacy, the exhibition serves to strengthen the enduring bond between the two nations and reinforces their commitment to nurturing closer people-to-people connections.
