Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Celebration
2021
Pravasi Bharatiya
Divas (PBD) (Overseas Indian Day)is celebrated on 9th January once every two
years to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development
of India and also focus on reconnecting them with their roots. On 9th
January 2021, 16th Pravasi
Bharatiya Diwas was organized by Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi in a
virtual format with the theme “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat” On this
occasion Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas was also celebrated by Consulate General of India,
Hambantota at the Consulate premises. The Consulate invited prominent members
of the Indian community and the programme was live streamed.
In inaugural session of the programme
External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar gave the welcome remark.
Thereafter there was an address by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At
the end of the telecast Consul General Mr.Dipin P.R interacted with the members
of Indian community and also highlighted a host of measures initiated by MEA to
help Indian citizens aboard. He also
provided details about various activities/ programmes being undertaken by the
Consulate for Indian diaspora in Southern Province Sri Lanka under its Consular
jurisdiction.
