Distribution of dry rations and essential materials to
the families in Galle.
Continuing its support to the people of Sri Lanka
during the current challenging times Consulate General of India in Hambantota
together with Divisional Secretariat Galle, on 28th June 2021 distributed dry
ration and essential materials to the families affected by floods and corona
pandemic in Galle.
02. In a
ceremony held at Galle, the Consul General of India in Hambantota Mr. Dipin P.R
and Mrs. I. Himali Ratnaweera, Divisional Secretary, Galle distributed the
materials to the needy people.
03. Sri
Lanka is among the major recipients of development assistance from the
Government of India. India’s development projects in Sri Lanka are based on Sri
Lanka’s own choices and priorities and touch the lives of common people across
Sri Lanka. The Indian Housing Project
and the 1990 Emergency Ambulance Service in Sri Lanka financed under Indian
grant assistance are among the flagship grant projects implemented by
Government of India in Sri Lanka.
Besides housing, India continues to assist in a large number of High
Impact Community Development Projects in areas of education, health, transport
connectivity, small and medium enterprise development and training across the
country under grant assistance.
04. In
Southern Province, the Southern Railway line was built under India grant
assistance after the devastating Tsunami of 2004. In 2018, India provided livelihood assistance
to as many as 70,000 people from fishing and farming community in Hambantota
and also dedicated the largest University Auditorium in Sri Lanka at University
of Ruhuna, Matara.
05. India’s
overall assistance to Sri Lanka currently stands at more than USD 3.5 billion
with USD 570 million being grants. While
close to 65 grant projects have already been carried out across the Island, 20
of them are being at various stages of implementation.
