Consulate General of India, Hambantota organizes “Buddhist Heritage of India” Photo Exhibition in Commemoration of Poson Full Moon Poya Day
Consulate General of India, Hambantota, is organizing the “Buddhist Heritage of India” Photo Exhibition from 27–29 June 2026 at Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya, Hambantota District, in commemoration of Poson Full Moon Poya Day.
Shri Harvinder Singh, Consul General of India in Hambantota, together with the Chief Incumbent of Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya, Most Venerable Dr. Dewalegama Dhammasena Thero, inaugurated the Photo Exhibition on 27 June 2026 in the presence of a large gathering of devotees and other distinguished guests.
The “Buddhist Heritage of India” celebrates India’s rich Buddhist heritage and showcases the profound spiritual and cultural legacy associated with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. The exhibition features photographs of sacred Buddhist sites and monuments across India, including places associated with the Buddha’s life, ancient monasteries, stupas, archaeological remains, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, reflecting the deep historical and civilizational links between India and Sri Lanka.
he exhibition aims to provide devotees and visitors an opportunity to experience India through the eyes of Sri Lankan citizens who have travelled across the country. It seeks to promote greater understanding and appreciation of India’s cultural diversity, heritage, and modern achievements, while fostering closer people-to-people ties and strengthening the longstanding friendship between India and Sri Lanka. The exhibition will remain open to the public from 27 to 29 June 2026.
This initiative reflects India’s continued commitment to strengthening cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections with Sri Lanka. It reaffirms the deep-rooted civilizational links, mutual goodwill, and enduring friendship between the two nations.
