Hambantota Inaugurates India@75 with a Tree Plantation
Consulate General of India,
Hambantota kicked off the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate
the 75th Independence Day on 01st April, 2021 by organizing a tree planting
ceremony at Labuduwa, Galle. Consul General, Mr. Dipin P.R and Chief Secretary
of Southern Province, Mr. R.C. de Zoysa together planted a sapling at Chief
Secretary’s residence premises and distributed more than 100 of saplings to the
Officials of Chief Secretariat.
02. Parallel
to this, an essay competition title ‘Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Lanka’ was held at Radampola
Sri Sumangala Central College and the winners were honored during the visit of
Consul General to the school on 31st March, 2021. During this visit,
he also visited Denagama Vipulasara Central College and had fruitful
discussions with principals of both schools and interacted with the school
students. On the occasion, he presented essential
reading materials, books and other reference texts required for the comprehensive
development of the students. The support provided by Consulate General of
India, Hambantota for the development of schools in Southern Province was
deeply appreciated by the principals and teachers.

The Consulate General of India has been interacting with government bodies, Chambers
of Commerce, Universities, Schools and other institutions in Southern Province
since the beginning of the Consulate through various activities such as cultural
programmes, yoga programmes, workshops, seminars, student exchange programmes
etc. In addition to that every year India is offering 794 scholarships to
students in Sri Lanka to study in India.
