Bharatanatyam Dance Performance
Consulate
General of India, Hambantota organized “Bharatanatyam Dance Performance” by Dr.
Parimal Phadke and his troupe, to commemorate India’s 73rd Independence
Day. Performances were held at Monaragala
District Library Auditorium, Monaragala on 18th August 2019 & at
Kotapola Pradeshiya Sabha Auditorium on 20th August 2019.
The
local hospitality for the troupe for events was provided by the Ministry of Sports Youth and Cultural
Affairs, Uva & Southern Provincial Council.
The event at
Monaragala was graced by Mr. Prem Kumar Nair, Consul General of
India-Hambantota , Mr. L.A Somarathne Additional District Secretary Mr.
Prageeth Kulathilaka, Divisional Secretary, Monaragala, Mr. U.H Upul Planning Director Monaragala, Mr.
Amila Nandasiri, Assistant Director, Ministry of Sports Youth and Cultural
Affairs of Uva Provincial Council and the residents of Monaragala town. The programme was witnessed by over 250 people
The
event at the Deniyaya was attended by Mr. Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Former
Hon’ble Minister of Sports Youth and Cultural Affairs, Southern Provincial
Council, Mr. Dayananda Abewickrama ,Chairman, Kotapola Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr.
Sanjeewa Arukgoda, Deputy Chairman Kotapola Pradeshiya Sabha, other council
members of Kotapola Pradeshiya Sabha & residents of Deniyaya, Kotapola
& Pitabaddara area. The programme was witnessed by
over 350 people.
The
one and half hour performance by the Bharatanatyam Group, which included
specially choreographed sequences on Life of Lord of Buddha & Mahatma
Gandhi, graceful in execution kept the audience spellbound at both the venues.
They enjoyed the programme and appreciated the efforts of Consulate General of
India, Hambantota in bringing such elegant & graceful dance form to Sri
Lanka.
