75th Independence Day of India celebrations in Southern Province, Sri Lanka
Consulate General of India,
Hambantota in Sri Lanka celebrated the 75th Independence Day on
August 15, 2021 in strict compliance with Covid-19 protocol. Consul General of
India, Hambantota Mr. Dipin P.R hoisted the national flag and other Consulate
officials attended the event. This year’s celebration was part of the “Azadi Ka
Amrit Mohotsav” initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March
2021, to commemorate 75 year of progressive and self-reliant India.
02. As a part of these celebrations, the Consulate also
organized special Alms (Dana) giving ceremony for the Buddhist Monk in
Hambantota Nibbaramaya Temple to invoke blessings of the Noble Triple Gems for
the health and well-being of people of Sri Lanka & India. Prayers and
blessings chanting were also performed for the continued strong, friendly and
bilateral relations between Sri Lanka & India.
03. On the eve of the Independence Day, UNESCO World Heritage
Galle Fort, Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium and Consulate General of
India, Hambantota were illuminated with colours of Indian flag. A number of
events are being held in Southern Province & Monaragala District in Sri
Lanka under the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav” initiative
