Republic Day of India celebrations in Southern Province, Sri Lanka
The Consulate General of India, Hambantota
celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on Wednesday, January 26, 2022
at the Consulate premises in Hambantota with great patriotic zeal and fervor.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Consul General
Mr. Dipin P.R followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Thereafter, the
Consul General read out the address of Hon’ble President Shri Ram Nath Kovind
to the nation on the eve of the Republic Day.
2. Many distinguished
personalities, including, District Secretary, Deputy Mayor, Naval Commander of
Kavanthissapura Naval Base, Senior Government officials, Local police
officials, officials from Hambantota Chamber of Commerce, representatives of
hospitals etc. participated in the flag hoisting ceremony.
3. In the evening, a special reception
was hosted by the Consul General at Weligama Bay Marriott Resort. The Hon’ble Governor
of Southern Province H.E Dr Willie Gamage was the chief guest on the occasion. Sri
Lankan Parliament members Hon’ble Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Hon’ble. Ajith
Rajapaksha, Southern Provincial Ministry Secretaries, Vice Chancellor, Deputy
Vice Chancellor, and Faculty Dean from Ruhuna University, Municipal Matara
& officials of Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce and other prominent
local personalities were among the distinguished guests who attended the
reception.
4. An exhibition on the “Unsung Heroes of
India’s Freedom Struggle” and “Forts of India” depicting their importance in
India’s freedom struggle was also organized at the venue for the distinguished
guests.
