125th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, First Law Minister of Independent India

Consulate General of India, Hambantota would be organizing a cultural programme on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on 23rd June 2016 at 1345 hrs. at the Auditorium of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences & Technology, University of Ruhuna, Matara.


Dr. Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economistpolitician and social reformer who inspired the Modern Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination against Untouchables (Dalits), while also supporting the rights of women and labour. He was Independent India's first law Minister also.


Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uva Province H.E. Mr. Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, other Provincial Ministers, Government Agents, Chief Secretaries, other high level officials and friends of India from Southern Province and Monaragala District are expecting to attend the event. Floral Tribute would be given to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar followed by drama on the life & works of Dr. Ambedkar and the classical dance programmes by the local talents. The prizes would be given to the winners (first three positions – junior & senior) who had participated in an essay competition on ‘life and work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar conducted by the Consulate at its consular jurisdiction. After the event a slight refreshments would be served to the invited Guests.


The admission is free and seats are on first come first served basis.
