Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Special Week Celebrations, 30th January – 10th February 2022

 

India is completing 75 Years of her independence on 15th August 2022. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Government of India is celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)’ beginning 75 weeks prior to the 75th Independence Day of India. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had formally launched India@75 celebrations on 12th March 2021 at Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, 75 weeks prior to India’s 75th Independence Day on 15th August 2022 and will end on 15th August 2023.

2.            Consulate General of India, Hambantota is also celebrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)’ festival and as a part of the celebration many events have been organized in Southern province and Monaragala District of Uva Province last year such as Cleanliness Drive at Weeravila, Inauguration of A.R Narayan English Activity room in Madawelana Maha Vidyalaya, Inauguration of Practice Side Wicket at Debarawewa, AKAM Hambantota District Football Tournament, AKAM Indian Musical Evening and AKAM Premier League.

3. CGI Hambantota has planned to celebrate a “Special AKAM Week” from 30th January – 10th February 2022 encompassing different events. The week long celebrations will start with “Divyanubhthi” Odissi Dance performance performed by  Ms Moumita Gosh & Troupe on 30th January at Hall De Galle, in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations & Southern Provincial Ministry of Sports, Youth Affairs & Culture and rest of the planned events are as follows :

 

  • ø  1st February “Sri Lanka - India Friendship Walk” will be organized at Hambantota coinciding with Sri Lanka’s 74th Independence day. 
  • ø  3rd February a special Pirith Chanting Ceremony will be organized at Mulkirigala Raja Maha Vihara in memory of all the Unsung Heroes of India & Sri Lanka’s Freedom struggle.
  • ø  5th February 2022Rangoli Competition will be organized at Monaragala Aliyawaththa Kanishta Vidyalaya with the participation of Monaragala local community.
  • ø  7th  February 2022, a Tree Plantation will be organized in association with Kataragama Pradeshiya Sabha to mark the 75 years of India’s Independence
  • ø  9th & 10th February 2022 Indian Film Festival will be organized at Aliyawatta Estate & Kumarawatta Estate in Monaragala from 4.30 p.m. onwards.
