Bihu Folk Dance & Music Event on 24th January 2018

The Bihu folk dance and music event was held on 24th January 2018 at FMST Auditorium of University of Ruhuna, Matara from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Vice Chancellor Prof. Gamini Senanayake, Mr. Senaka Palliyaguruge, Municipal Commissioner Matara, Senior Student Counselor Prof. Saman Chandana, heads of various faculties of the University, local dignitaries fom Matara and Galle and the University of Ruhuna students attended the event. The 300 seat auditorium was packed to capacity and many watched the event standing. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the graceful Assam Folk Dance &the lilting music on display which included Bihu and other dance forms integral to Assam’s culture and was accompanied by live singing & music accompaniment in genuine folk tradition.This was the first time that artistes from the North Eastern state of Assam performed in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. The 90 minutes programme captivated the audience; many of them including those from the University of Ruhuna came up and conveyed their appreciation for the efforts of Consulate General of India, Hambantota in bringing such artistes to Sri Lanka.
