India 70 Celebrations - Rhythmscape in Hambantota

Consulate General of India, Hambantota in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi organized “Rhythmscape” – a Fusion Percussion band performance by Pandit Bickram Ghosh and his troupe on 21st August 2017 at Hambantota Beach to commemorate 70 years of India’s Independence. The event was graced by Mr. W.H. Karunarathne, District Secretary/ Government Agent, Hambantota and many other local high level dignitaries. The programme held at the beach volleyball stadium was witnessed by over 1000 people. The one and half hour performance by the Tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh and his band began with “The Dance of Shiva” based on Raga Jog and culminated with “Rhythm Speaks”, a composition based on raga Banjara composed by the great Sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar. Pandit Bickram Ghosh on tabla, S.Shekhar on Mridangam, Satyajit Mukherjee on Drums, Ambrish Das (Vocal), Ashish Mallick on Electric Sitar & Pulak Sarkar on Keyboard enthralled and wowed the audience with their high energy performance. The audience enjoyed the programme thoroughly and appreciated the efforts of Consulate General of India, Hambantota in bringing such internationally acclaimed artistes to Sri Lanka.
