India 70 Celebrations - Classical Violin Recital

Consulate General of India, Hambantota in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi and Ministry of Cultural & Art Affairs, Southern Provincial Council organized an Indian Classical Violin Recital by Dr. Mysore Manjunath & Mysore Nagaraj (Mysore brothers) on 18th August 2017 at St. Matthew’s Maha Vidyalaya Auditorium, Deniyaya. Mysore brothers, one of the most acclaimed Indian classical violinists, were accompanied by Amrit on the Khanjira and Arjun Kumar on the Mridangam. The event was graced by Mr. H.G. Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Minister of Cultural & Art Affairs, Southern Province and other local dignitaries. The event was witnessed by about 130 people. This was the first time that any Indian cultural event was held in Deniyaya, a remote hilly tea growing area in Matara district. The Violin recital by the Mysore brothers lasting nearly 90 minutes captivated the audience and left them yearning for more. They appreciated the efforts of Consulate General of India, Hambantota in organizing the programme and requested for holding more such events at Deniyaya.
