Thaipoongal Festival at Deniyaya

Consul General was invited by Hon’ble Cultural Affairs Minister, Southern Province at Thaipoongal Festival which was held in Deniyaya on 30th January 2016. After attending pooja rituals along with Cultural Affairs Minister, Consul General highlighted in his speech about the scholarship schemes offered by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to PIOs/OCIs. Besides that he explained about ITEC and ICCR scholarship schemes to the local public how they can utilize them at the optimum level. After the event, Consul General had a brief interaction with 5 principals of Tamil Maha Vidyalayas in Deniyaya to explain about scholarship programmes offered by Government of India. The principals, school children and local public showed keen interest in utilizing the scholarship schemes offered by Government of India. The above event lasted for 3 hours. Deniyaya Pradesiya Sabha members, Culture Secretary (Southern Province), local dignitaries also attended the event. Local school children performed various cultural events which were depicted tamil culture.
