Bandish Fusion musical concert on 13th Aug. 2015

As part of the 69th Independence Day Celebrations of India on 15th August 2015, the Consulate General of India, Hambantota in collaboration with Indian Council of Cultural Affairs, New Delhi and University of Ruhunu organized “Bandish Fusion” programme for two days from 12-13, August 2015. On the second day i.e. 13th August 2015, Bandish Fusion was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Southern Province H.E. Mr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara at 1800 hrs at FMST Auditorium, University of Ruhuna, Matara. The reverends from Buddhist Chaityas, Church Father, Vice Chancellor, Consul General of India, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Chief Secretary - Southern Province, Government Agent Matara, Secretary Ministry of Cultural Affairs were witnessed the event. Besides that, there was an audience of about 500 people consisting of University Students of Ruhuna, faculty members, administrative staff, other distinguished guests. Grammy nominated and internationally acclaimed percussion Maestro Pandit Subhen Chatterjee, along with his fusion band KARMA commenced the concert at 1800 hrs. He, along with his troupe played a music fusion based on Hindustani Music Bandish in his own constructed style fused with incredible rhythms taking one to a whole new level of musical raptures. In the musical concert his troupe played Assamese, Bengali, Tamil and Indian Patriotic Songs which mesmerized the audience. The event lasted for about 2 hours.
