Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance Performance @ Galle on 21st January 2019

Consulate General of India, Hambantota organized “Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance Performance” – by Shri Bhibuti Bhusan Mohanta and his troupe, to commemorate India’s 70th Republic Day. A performance was held at Siridhamma College Auditorium , Labuduwa, Galle on 21st January 2019.

The event was graced by Mr. Prem Kumar Nair, Consul General of India-Hambantota , Mr. U.G.D Ariyathilaka, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian development, Southern Provincial Council, Mr. Chandima Rasaputhra, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Land Development, Southern Provincial council and Mr. Ravindra Pushpakumara, Principal of Siridhamma College The event was witnessed by about 500 people.

The one and half hour performance by the Mayurbhanj Chhau Group characterized by strong and vigorous movements, yet graceful in execution kept the audience spellbound at all the venues. They enjoyed the programme and appreciated the efforts of Consulate General of India, Hambantota in bringing such rare and unique dance form to Sri Lanka. Chhau is a UNESCO recognized dance form
